DRAWING THE SNOWDROP - a journey of becoming for early Spring awakening.
A process of change. A melting, a warming, a letting go, a preparation to generate a feeling of inner warmth, renewal, revival and connection as the light shifts, and we reach the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, reaching the celebrated time of new fire, Imbolc.
These yearly rhythms of light and dark are in our body chemistry and in the movement of our soul life, if you observe carefully they are alive in our memory, culture, and very much in the flora and fauna that are around us.
The snowdrop is a plant, particular to this time. What can the snowdrop show you? Help you with? Through its form, gesture, essence? Can it ignite some fire, some creativity, some fun? Bring you into imaginative thinking? For the last four winters I’ve made art studies of the snowdrop, also working with the flower essence (this is included) and painted in colour, the soul mood this flower and the time of Imbolc evokes.
The process:
On booking you are sent a materials list and instructions for the 12-day art process
Thursday January 20th - introduction, more details, questions, opening exercises (Zoom) 6pm-7pm (UK)
12 days of drawing the snowdrop: beginning morning of Friday 21st Jan through to the morning of Tues Feb 1st.
Tuesday February 1st - we finish with a review of the reflection on zoom 5.30pm (UK)
Each participant will draw an aspect of the snow drop each day for 12 days. In the introduction meeting I will give you a detailed guidance on the drawing exercises, and colour work. How long you spend on each drawing will be up to you but you will be encouraged to note reflections from each day.
This is a commitment to enjoy, you let the snowdrop enter your own field of awareness - you let it live alongside you for 12 days, and become your teacher, and your muse. It is a way to strengthen your inner compass this year.
In our final meeting we review the drawings and the unfolding process it became for you.
If participants want to submit their work following the 12 days, we will create an Online Exhibition and launch it on 2nd Feb. (this is completely optional per person).

(More on Imbolc. Feb 1st this year is also a new moon & the Chinese New Year in the Tiger (confidence, bravery). Imbolc, meaning ‘in the belly’ is the time the lambs begin to be born, and the ewes come into milk. It is aligned with Brigid, the greatest of the Celtic divinities associated with the land, agriculture and protector of the wells and springs. A guardian of nature, a fertility goddess, keeper of the flame and the patron of the poets, music makers, storytellers and artists. Candlemas, a light in the darkness is the ritual in the Christian church. And, this time of year is also the celebration of Yoruba orisha Yemanja, orisha of the ocean and the mother creative force of the universe The true Imbolc this year is Wed 3 Feb 8.37pm UTC)
